CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Region 1 police director Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel ordered the immediate conduct of in-depth and impartial investigations on the alleged involvement in illegal drugs of some local chiefs executive (LCEs) and other government officials in the region especially those named by President Rodrigo Duterte during his speech in Camp Panacan in Davao City on Sunday morning (August 7).
PCSupt. Pimentel, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said it is the responsibility of the police to investigate in order to seek for the truth behind the said accusation. He said that thru the investigation they will also be given the opportunity to clear and defend their names.
It was recalled that names of Mayors Martin De Guzman of Bauang; Dante Garcia of Tubao; and Renaldo Flores of Naguilian; Dr. Eufranio Eriguel, former mayor of Agoo all in La Union, and Congressman Jesus “Boying” Celeste of First District of Pangasinan were among the personalities named by the President.
Mayor Flores and Congressman Celeste voluntarily appeared to the office of PCSupt. Pimentel on Sunday afternoon (August 7) in compliance to the pronouncement of Pres. Duterte that all the names he mentioned should appear to the police within 24 hours.
The two government officials also undergone debriefing initiated by the combined personnel of PRO1, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 1 (PDEA-RO1), Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit 1 (CIDU1) and Regional Intelligence Unit 1 (RIU1).
Meanwhile, on the same date, eight (8) assorted firearms of Congressman Celeste were turned in by Mayor Arnold Del Fierro Celeste of Bolinao, Pangasinan to Bolinao Police Station for safekeeping composed of two (2) Shotguns, two (2) 9mm pistol, one (1) caliber 45, two (2) M16 rifles and one (1) cal. 22 and assorted ammunition. The firearms have corresponding licenses all issued on January 26, 2016 and expire on April 20, 2020.
The respective Chiefs of Police (COPs) of the said towns were also relieved in respect to the PNP’s “one strike policy” and to avoid influence on the on-going investigation. ###
