CAMP BGEN OSCAR FLORENDO- Two (2) suspected notorious motorcycle riding criminals killed in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan after an armed encounter with the members of Urdaneta police at around 3:20 in the morning on September 23, 2016 (Friday).
Police Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said the two suspects armed with caliber .45 were cornered along the road of Sitio Awed, Palina East, Urdaneta City during a hot pursuit operation.
“The suspects refused to surrender and they fired upon the responding policemen prompting our personnel to retaliate,” PCSupt. Pimentel added.
Police Superintendent Marceliano A. Desamito Jr., Urdaneta City Police Chief reported that one of the suspects killed was identified as Rolando S. Apolinario of Purok 3, Valle Cruz, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. The two were suspected drug personalities based on the sachets of alleged shabu and two (2) caliber .45 recovered from them.
Reports reaching this headquarters stated that prior to the encounter; Apolinario and his companion allegedly shot to death an unidentified male person at the vicinity of Zone 1, Camantiles of said city before they fled towards the direction of Barangay San Vicente. The victim was also a suspected drug personality based on the recovered sachet of shabu from his possession.
The Urdaneta CPS likewise coordinated to the concerned authorities for the identity of the one suspect and the victim and submitted the recovered firearms and empty cartridges to the PNP Crime Laboratory Office for ballistic examination and cross matching to find out the possible involvement of the suspects in the previous shooting incidents in the city.
PCSupt. Pimentel commended the Urdaneta City Police and encouraged all his personnel on the ground to stay firm in anti-illegal drugs campaign and effect relentless drives against the criminals especially those involved in illegal drugs activities.
“Let us sustain the momentum and work hand-in-hand to terrorize illegal drugs and bring this campaign successful for our community people whom we are sworn to serve and protect,” the Regional Director added.
Meanwhile, with the relentless implementation of the anti-illegal drugs campaign and Project: “Double Barrel” from July 1 to September 23, the PRO1 recorded a total of 913 police operations that resulted to the arrest of 1,055 drug personalities and death of 38 DPs during armed encounters.
A total of 80,406 houses were visited under Oplan “Tokhang” and 33,573 drug personalities surrendered to the police. ###
